To each her own

So lately I’ve felt like I don’t have time for anything! In reality I do, however it never really lines up right. For instance…I may have plans at 10am tomorrow…but if tonight is a bad night for us-I don’t feel up to doing anything and we sleep in until 11. Well, there goes half my day! Then Harper and I wake up and guess who needs to eat, use the bathroom, and be entertained? ME!!! Lol but guess who GETS to do all of these things first…duh! The tiny pretty person I hang out with all day. There’s 45 minutes of our time. Soooo…I skip the part where I get jazzed up, eat, and…well ok, i still get to use the restroom. So…when we do get around to getting actually productive things done-I look like a street tramp with my ratty/frizzy/dark rooted hair. Not that anyone’s looking at me when I’m carrying around a little beauty queen.

You get where I’m going with this. We NEED more relaxing time! SO we have started making it a point to do something fun every week!

Last week Harper and I went to eat lunch with our friend, Timeka. ๐Ÿ™‚ she’s having a sweet baby boy soon! The. We can have sweet play dates!!!

ALSO last week I made time for myself. I got a little jazzy and went to a glass making class with my good ole kickball buddies Karen and Nikki! It was nice to have a break from my normal nightly activities.

Today Harper and I went to a moms league of Birmingham date! We met all sorts of fun mommies and sweet babies! It was good for her to have all that stimulation and GREAT for me to be able to talk with a group of women with little ones! We even went to eat lunch afterwards! This will be an every week kinda thing!

What does tomorrow hold in store for us?
Maybe…a baby wearing walk?!!! I’m fairly sure for myself-I’ll get a little extra me time because Harper stayed up until 11 tonight. She’s usually in bed at 8! Wowzers! But it was for a fun time with her uncle Colten’s 30th birthday! She thoroughly enjoyed being passed around and bounced!

Hopefully we can keep a weekly routine of baby time day/mommy time day activities! 20120125-233609.jpg20120125-233644.jpg20120125-233711.jpg20120125-233723.jpg20120125-233734.jpg20120125-233752.jpg

The exciting, perplexing, and obsessive.

It’s not surprising that I STILL haven’t had enough time for the blog lately! Between watching Harper, random chores, working, and trying to get an online business set up…I simply haven’t had time! So…sorry! I will try to do better!

On to the good stuff!

I feel like every day I love Harper more! Not that I wasn’t in love with her from day one, but now she just does so much more! It’s the stuff that lets me know she recognizes me and that I make her happy that makes me so excited! I love when I can make her smile and get excited! These new happy interactions make it REALLY hard to get anything done these days! I spend a lot of time just looking at her and trying to get her to make new sounds or faces! FUN!

Ya’ll, SHE CHANGES SO MUCH EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I have to take pictures everyday so I don’t forget anything!

Exciting things:

  • Harper is now 8.9 lbs and 21 inches long! My milk must do a body good!
  • She is also starting to smile as of last week! I got a few pictures of her first happy session!
  • I think my hair is growing back to a legnth I like! It’s taken so long to get here!
  • Johns once evil scale now says I only have 7 more lbs to lose to be back to my pre baby weight!
  • I have jeans! I finally accepted the fact that I needed to buy a couple of pair and to quit having frivolous arguments with my old jeans.
  • This week I go to my first post partem visit…let’s hope all is well down there because for a few weeks, I was for certain that THINGS had been re arranged downstairs. I was very suspicious of my doctors intentions. If only you could see my google searches from that week. If only.
  • John ad I went to our first movie in 3 months! The girl with the dragon tattoo was great!
  • I had 3 purchases from my ETSY store this week! Great start!
  • Harper got to go with me to Chad and Kelllie’s baby shower! Soon she will meet her new best friend, Lily!!!! SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!

Perplexing things:

  • Harper’s B-hole. The things it does are just questionable. The sounds… The vibrations… The whole production!!! GOSH!
  • My left boob. It’s OUT. OF. CONTROL. I’m worried it has a mind of it’s own and will start taking on it’s own personality that I will have to deal with. Will I have to talk to it? Will it want to go out to all nighters? Will it not have my same taste in clothes?
  • John’s sleep talking. I’ll be honest…sometimes the thing he has to say in his sleep freak me out. For instance…I’m afraid of ghosts being in our house. I never discussed this with him. Because…well he already thinks I’m crazy. One night in a deep sleep he raises up and says “THE GHOSTS..” I look at him hoping that’s not what he said…and questioned him. he says: “THE GHOSTS ARE ANGRY. THEY ARE FIGHTING” OH MY GOSH. MAKE IT STOP! I’M ALREADY FREAKED OUT AT NIGHT. MAJORLY FREAKED OUT!!!!!!!

Things I’m obsessed with:

  • Keifer. It’s this delicious drink. It’s the sweet nectar of life. It tastes like yogurt…blueberry yogurt! And since I really can’t have milk it’s a great alternative! it’s 99% lactose free and gluten free. AND DELICIOUS!!!!
  • Reality TV. It’s getting out of hand. Teen mom, mob wives, RHOBH, RHOA, Jersey Shore, Baseball wives…….the list goes on because I didn’t list the shows that are out of season!
  • Lady Gaga
  • Well rested eyes concealer from Bare Minerals.

Well even though the night is young…seeing as I will be back up at 3 am with a certain little princess…It’s time for me to go to bed! Nighty Night!

Can I just say…

We are SO fortunate to have such a good baby!!! For the most part she is content, she sleeps well…even though she has to wake up to eat at night – she is a breeze to put back to sleep almost every night when I’m up with her at 3am, and she is so pretty!! ๐Ÿ™‚ WOOHOO! WE WON THE BABY JACKPOT!

The Publix Debacle

I’ve decided that I have a case of the Mommy Heebie Jeebies.

I’m not exactly what switch was flipped when Harper got here, or how to turn it off for that matter, but I am so easily creeped out these days!

I am constantly on high alert. At night, I have bionic ears. I hear the peeps the little one makes…but that’s not the problem. I hear creaks, cracks, and bumps in the night. I work myself into a near panic thinking that someone could be in our house! It takes me forever to get back to sleep some nights because I wonder if someone is in our house and will TAKE MY BABY!! I know…this is crazy right? AND THIS IS ONLY IN MY HOME! Imagine the way I feel in public! The news is probably partly mostly to blame for these irrational fears.

Let me lay out my most recent Publix visit.

At first I feel as if a man is following Harper and I around the store. The guy even got behind us in line and made sure to talk to us -after following a little too close the entire store visit. Men looking at my baby creep me out in any setting…when they talk to me and my baby…the fear escalates! Maybe it’s because I feel like men are bigger and stronger than me and they would win a fight if I had to defend us? Who knows. And the evil news doesn’t really shed any good light on men looking at babies.

Moving along…I am watching the cashier ring up my groceries and happen to look over at the bag girl as she lifts up a bag and slings it into the buggy…ON TOP OF MY BABY’S FACE!!!! Her face. A bag!!! With 2lbs of meat and 2 loaves of bread in it!!! IN. A. BAG.

Using my cat like reflexes I immediately pick the bag up before Harper has time to freak out and tell her that there is a baby in there and she can’t sit stuff on a baby’s face!! I know what you’re thinking…I was a little too nice. I must add, I suspect the bag girl as being a little…slow? I couldn’t put my finger on it, but something was just not right.

ANYWAYS…as I was paying for my food, said bag girl moves between my cart (with my baby in it) and I. She starts to push it OUT THE DOOR!!!!!!!! Oh. My. Gosh. Does she not know my immense fear of someone taking my baby?!?!?? Maybe she is too young? Maybe she is too slow? I’m not sure, I just know I had a meltdown! I teared up and told her not to go any further and that I would not need her to take my food the car and ran away so I could make it to the car before I continued to further melt!

I am not upset with the girl now, it was just a series of uneducated mishaps I guess. I’m sure Publix doesn’t have any policy on what their employees should do when a child is in a cart. And I’m sure the girl didn’t MEAN to put a bag on the baby, she just wasn’t thinking clearly…or maybe she had vision problems?

SOOOOO this brings me to the scariest thought ever. One day…far from now…I am going to lose sight of Harper for a brief couple of seconds. I am going to have that heartbreaking feeling of “where did she go?!?!?!?!”….I’M NOT READY FOR THAT!!!!

Hello from Harper

Hey guys…it’s COLD!! So I have to wear my burrrrrrr suit! It makes my arms looks so big. This confuses me. I will hold them as far away as possible so as to avoid conflict.

2011 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,200 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Click here to see the complete report.

One baby…a million pieces of advice!

I was told this would happen…it’s unavoidable…and ever so frustrating…people that have unhelpful criticism and advice about my new baby!

I am slowly and begrudgingly figuring out that I just have to nod my head and smile when put in these situations.

It is hard though!!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I’d rather throw a Harper-esc tantrum and yell “I live with my baby, I know her better than you do!!”

What is NOT encouraging is:

  • Letting me know what is wrong with my child with all certainty.
  • Offering advice while adding what I am doing wrong.
  • Implying in any way, shape, or form that I am hurting my baby.

What IS encouraging:

  • Letting me know when I am doing a great job being a mother.
  • When someone offers educated helpful advice while leaving all the criticism out.
  • Asking me questions about what I like to do with my baby, instead of just doing it your way.

Whew!ย  Please keep the ENCOURAGING comments coming and leave the DISCOURAGING ones behind…it really will make everyone’s lives so much easier.
